BENEFITS OF LUYAA LACROSSE
· LUYAA
is THE feeder program for Linganore, Urbana and Oakdale High
Schools. High school teams are more successful when they play
together from the time they are young. Play for LUYAA and you are
playing with your high school team.
· LUYAA
Boys play in the more competitive SMYLA league, which offers both A
and B teams. B teams provide instruction and games for new and
novice players, and A teams provide more advanced play. Together,
they offer all players the opportunity to advance their skills.
· LUYAA
Girls have the opportunity to compete in several fun and advanced
tournaments, including the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington,
D.C.
· All
LUYAA players benefit from the extensive coaching experience and
training LUYAA provides. All teams have coaches trained in the
Positive Coaching Alliance. Most of our coaches are also US
Lacrosse Level 1 trained and have coached for many years. Many of
our coaches are US Lacrosse Level 2 trained, and played lacrosse in
college.
· Strategic
partnerships: In addition to partnering with both Linganore and
Urbana High Schools, LUYAA has formed partnerships with area club
programs and colleges. This provides additional resources,
coaching, training and opportunities for our players and coaches.
· LUYAA
Day at Linganore and Urbana High Schools: U9 teams play a showcase
game at Linganore and Urbana High schools and all other teams get in
Free!
· LUYAA
teams get to participate in the LUYAA LAXFEST; a fun filled event
where we play multiple teams from a variety of areas all in one day,
and compete in challenge games like fastest shot and Hole in One.
Prizes, Scholarships, and fun abound!
· See
our “Strategic Plan” on our season website (www.leaguelineup.com/luyaalax-spring)
for more information.
I’m very happy to announce our 2010 Management Team:
Urbana Boys Lacrosse Coordinator: Tina
Sanford
(urbanaboyslax@luyaa.org)
Tina has been
LUYAA Boys Coordinator since Fall 2009, was single-handedly
responsible for implementing our indoor program, and has been acting
assistant commissioner since Fall. She is also responsible for
ensuring the startup of our scoopers program, and has been critical
to our success since summer 2009.
Linganore Boys Lacrosse Coordinator: Ed Ross
(linganoreboyslax@luyaa.org)
Ed is the Athletic Director for Poolesville High School in
Gaithersburg, and comes to us with extensive experience in program
management. We are very lucky to have him, and extremely grateful
for his support.
Girls Lacrosse Coordinator: Tom
Holt
(girlslax@luyaa.org)
Tom has been
an integral part of LUYAA girls lacrosse for several years, and has
done an outstanding job in his role as Girls Coordinator since Fall
2009. He spearheaded the early launch of our change-over to LOUYAA
Lacrosse in preparation for the opening of Oakdale High School and
the 2010 redistricting.
LUYAA Coaches:
Please see our website (www.leaguelineup.com/luyaalax-spring)
for information on specific coaches.
Our coaching staff is one of our most valuable resources. They
teach our youth not only the game of lacrosse, but also very
valuable life lessons. In recognizing this responsibility, every
team
is required to have at least 1 coach certified as a National
Double-Goal Coach™. Offered by the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA),
it teaches “Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons”, and upholds one
of the main purposes of LUYAA, “To take into consideration, first
and foremost, the health, welfare and ability of each individual
participant." (Learn more about PCA at
www.positivecoach.org)
LUYAA Lacrosse also supports additional training for coaches from
coaching clinics, to US Lacrosse Level 1&2 certification, CPR/First
Aid, and attendance at the US Lacrosse National Convention, where
many highly educational sessions are held.
LUYAA FAMILIES: OUR VOLUNTEER FORCE
Being part of the LUYAA Lacrosse Family is a wonderful experience!
We make new friends, learn the great game of lacrosse and benefit
from all the life lessons it brings… TOGETHER!
The success of our program depends on the support and dedication of
all of the players and families. This is a VOLUNTEER organization
and succeeds because of all of the terrific people who dedicate
their time to ensure that our boys and girls have these
opportunities. A huge thank you goes out to all of the coaches, team
managers and volunteers. ALL FAMILIES ARE ASKED TO VOLUNTEER A
MINIMUM OF 2 HOURS OF THEIR TIME TO HELP MAKE OUR PROGRAM A SUCCESS.
Thank you for all of your support! (Please see the Volunteer tab
for more information)
